The Solution
Agribusiness basic course is oriented towards imparting knowledge about different activities, economic concepts and tools related understanding agriculture as a business. Basic economic and business principles governing profitable and sustainable farm and agribusiness operations; Skills in agri-business planning practices and management; Importance of external business environment. Agriculture as a business. The Informal, Small and Micro Enterprises (ISMEs) Non-agriculture-based labour and market opportunities (e.g. of income, provision of goods for both domestic and industrial sector and as a basis of industrial development).
Course Objective:
To facilitate the participants to understand the need to promote the linkages between agriculture and economic enterprise development in rural development.

Course Outline
The following is the course outline.
Introduction to Agricultural Business: To introduce participants to the definition and classification of agribusiness. This will enable the participants understand the meaning of agribusiness, flow chart of the components of agribusiness and the peculiar characteristics of agribusiness in Nigeria.
Nature and Scope of Agribusiness Management: To enable participants learn the basic principles, nature and scope of agribusiness in Nigeria, and also to know the nature and scope of agribusiness operation in Nigeria. The effects of policy on agribusiness development in Nigeria. Seasonality and its effect on agribusiness.
Objectives of Agribusiness Organizations: To make participants understand the major objectives and goals of agribusiness organization in Nigeria: Participants would be introduced to objectives of agribusiness organizations. Profit maximization objective, sales maximization, survival and homeostasis objectives. Importance of objectives to agribusiness firm, market appraisal and feasibility reports.
Management in Agribusiness: Participants will learn the fundamental principles of agribusiness management. This part would expose participants to understand the different management functions, such as planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling, principles of management, qualities and attributes of a good manager
Organizational Development: To make participants understand the different management styles and elements of management.
Steps in Establishing Agribusiness Enterprises; Participants will learn the steps involved in establishing agribusiness enterprises in Nigeria. Including legal and procedural activities that are involved in establishing agribusiness enterprises in Nigeria. Criteria for selecting the proper kind of agribusiness, terms of agreement between owners and participants, registration with appropriate authority, business take off.
Types of Agribusiness Organizations: Participants will learn the different types of agribusiness in Nigeria. Sole proprietorship, partnership, corporations and cooperative type of business enterprises. The operation and principles guiding each type of enterprises. Sharing of profit and loss and management of the business.
Financial Management in Agribusiness: Participants will learn the basics principles of financial management as it relates to agricultural business enterprises, and will be exposed to the various tools of financial management. Basic accounting principles in agribusiness, management accounting, cost accounting and budgeting.
Financing of Agribusiness in Nigeria: Participants would be exposed to issues of agribusiness financing and constraints to agribusiness financing in Nigeria. Financial markets and agricultural lending agencies in Nigeria and linkages between financial markets vis-à-vis agribusiness lending:
